As of yesterday, the Martinsburg Mall is now owned by Mountain State University. This is exciting news for Berkeley County. I am a life long resident of Berkeley County and I can remember when the Mall first opened. There was so much promise, it was going to give this area a place to shop without traveling to neighboring Winchester VA or Hagerstown MD. I will admit that having a mall is better than not having a mall, but the Martinsburg Mall was never able to fill its spaces, or bring in the quality of stores that the neighboring towns had to offer. With Mountain State University's acquisition of the mall, this may be about to change. They will be converting 13,000 square feet of mall space into classrooms and offices. This will immediately bring more foot traffic to the mall, than there has ever been before. I believe the lack of foot traffic and existing customers has been the reason the mall has never drawn more stores. The university is committed to Berkeley County and to keeping the mall a retail center. I cant wait to see the new changes and to witness its growth. Thanks Aaron
