Your Real Estate Insider: A New Career

A New Career

I just read this great article about how insurance companies are now hiring lots of life insurance salesmen. They are recruiting former real estate agents, mortgage brokers, etc... I have actually heard of two real estate agents that I know, who have been offered insurance sales jobs. I was wondering if other agents are seeing this. I personally would have no interest in selling insurance. I enjoy real estate sales and wouldn't switch for anything. Are there any other areas looking to steal away agents? I know there are a lot of agents that are taking census jobs, but that is a temporary position. Let me know what you have seen. Thanks Aaron

Hi Aaron.  A very good friend of mine who was a former real estate agent is now working with an insurance company.  She was recruited heavily.  I too cannot imagine that line of work being as rewarding for me as real estate.

The market has been tough, though our area (Upstate NY) is seeing a dramatic upswing in sales recently. (The Tax Credit deadline looms bigger every day!) I think there will always be agents who struggle for one reason or another and need to bring in some type of income while waiting for the next closing. I don't fault these folks but I think if you stretch yourself too thin, your real estate business is going to decrease. Creates a vicious cycle. I would rather help these folks learn the tools needed to increase and follow up on leads, promote themselves better to their SOI and to the public and work on increasing their business instead of taking on part-time work in another field. I hope their brokers will come along side them and help them stay full-time agents.

After the vote in the house on health care I suspect there will be a lot of agents that formerly sold health insurance looking for work.

I would think the residuals would lure a few away. But some of the best salespeople are Realtors so they say.
